Dyslexia is one of the most common learning differences — and one of the most misunderstood. Children with dyslexia are not less intelligent; they process written language differently. Krisie uses structured literacy approaches grounded in ABA to help children decode, read fluently, and build genuine comprehension — and to rebuild confidence along the way.
"Children with dyslexia often try harder than anyone in the room. What they need isn't more effort — it's a different approach."
Systematic, multi-sensory phonics instruction (visual, auditory, kinaesthetic) to build sound-symbol correspondence and decoding accuracy.
Structured spelling rules, memory strategies, and writing scaffolds that reduce the cognitive load of getting words onto paper.
Teaching explicit comprehension strategies so that difficulties at the decoding level don't limit what a child can understand and engage with.
Positive reinforcement and carefully sequenced success experiences to repair the self-concept that repeated reading failure can damage.
Who This Helps
A psycho-educational assessment report is helpful but not required. We build from where your child is, whatever the paperwork says.
If your child is reading well below grade level, or has persistent difficulty with decoding or spelling, structured intervention can make a real difference.
Repeated failure creates avoidance. If your child resists reading, homework, or school itself, we address both the skill gap and the emotional response to it.
Many children in Greater Vancouver read in both English and Chinese. Krisie can support both, with sessions available in Cantonese and Mandarin as well as English.
How It Works
A relaxed conversation about your child's reading history, current challenges, and what you'd like to see change.
A structured look at your child's current reading, spelling, and writing skills to identify exactly where to begin.
A sequenced, evidence-based intervention plan targeting the specific skills your child needs to build.
Regular, data-tracked sessions with progress milestones so you always know how your child is developing.
Common Questions
No — dyslexia is a specific learning difference in how the brain processes written language, completely separate from overall intelligence. Many people with dyslexia have exceptional strengths in verbal reasoning, creativity, and big-picture thinking.
The earlier, the better — structured literacy support in the 5–8 age range has the strongest evidence base. That said, children of any age within our range (2–12) can make significant progress with consistent, well-designed intervention.
No. If your child is struggling with reading or spelling, that's enough to begin. Krisie will conduct an informal assessment in the first sessions to understand your child's specific profile and design support accordingly.
Yes. Krisie works in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. For bilingual children, we can address literacy challenges in both languages, and parent sessions can always be held in the family's preferred language.
Every child is different, but families typically notice meaningful changes in 3–6 months of consistent, structured intervention. Krisie tracks data at every session so progress (and any plateaus) are visible early.
